This blog post is about judgement. And yes, I’m venting. I’ll tell you why.

I recently signed up to a mailing list for one these “anti diet, celebrate obesity” type of groups. I saw a post on Instagram, and was curious to see what the point of this movement was. The message, that sounded like an encouragement to be obese, simply didn’t make sense to me. But hey, I’m open to a debate, and new ideas. And frankly, I was being nosy.

I was actually SHOCKED at the messages that I saw in my inbox. I’m not going to call these people out by name, as it would put me in the same box as them. The emails that came through were mostly rants. Very unprofessional and in my opinion plain nasty. Those emails NAMED specific Instagram profiles of REAL people and totally annihilated them. For being slim, for dieting, and apparently for “giving a bad example”.

This is what I want to say to the people that write such utter crap.

Why, oh why would you do that? The girl who is on the water diet might not be your tribe, but is that good reason to bully her? The person who in your opinion over exercises, or feels their honed body is what they are most proud of – why do they bother you so much?

Do you not realize, that behind every single one of those Instagram accounts, there is a REAL PERSON?

With a REAL life, REAL problems and you know NOTHING about their story? Bullying is not acceptable in any format. Just because you don’t agree with those people, or the message they put out, it doesn’t mean its acceptable to mock them, name them, and hold them up as an example, of what in your opinion you others should not be doing.

If you have a positive message, or a message you think you want to put out to the world that you think is worth hearing, DO IT. But it really does not have to be at the expense of others. It’s damaging, its hurtful and it doesn’t do any good to anyone. Our bodies do not define us, they are not us, they are what we live in. We all look after our “house” in different ways.

Fat shame, fit shame, ITS ALL LAME. THIS CONSTANT JUDGEMENT NEEDS TO STOP.

The nail in the coffin on these emails for me was that they always directed me to a product I could buy – Like a “Guide on never dieting again”. Which is all great – but you have just slagged off the whole diet industry. You mocked anyone who falls for their stuff, only to then try and sell me something yourself! Anyone who does that, in any industry needs to get a grip.

YOU don’t become MORE, by making others feel like their are LESS.

We live in a world full of diversity, and this should be celebrated. What someone else does, is none of your business. You may not agree with it, it may not be your thing, but don’t be mean. Being unkind, name calling, or calling someone out because you don’t like how they eat, exercise, or how their body looks, is BULLYING.

It leaves a bad taste in my mouth when I see these kind of posts, and I would never buy anything from anyone that does that. I don’t believe we should build communities that unite through hate. There is already enough hate in this world.

So let’s unite in love instead. Love for ourselves, and for others. Lets have boundaries, and respect each other’s choices.

LIVE AND LET LIVE.
